What do you consider when choosing your cleats?
There are so many cleats out there, how do you know which one is right for you? What are the criteria? Well there are many but you can start with these below:
Durability
It is durable or not buyable! Whatever material your cleats are made of, they have to be durable or you will be stuck in an endless cycle of replacing your cleats at least every two months.
Ensure that every part of the cleats, lace, eyelets, sole, heel, stud, and all is long-lasting. When you go shopping, find out as much as possible about each pair before you purchase them.
Material
Generally, cleats are made of leather or synthetic leather. These two have their pros and cons. For example, genuine leather is much more comfortable and durable than synthetic leather.
Synthetic leather is however cheap, waterproof, and lustrous. You will have to take time to see what works best for your feet while playing. How will the material react after a month, two, or three?
Beat-up but still standing? What if it rains or hails or it is sunny all day. These things matter.
Fit
Many people ask if they should buy bigger cleats or if they should size down. The best is for your cleats to fit you comfortably, not too big or small. It should be free and yet not so free that you worry about them while you play.
If they are too big they can slip off while playing and if they are too small you will have chaffed feet and lots of blisters. Either way, with time you will have sore legs.
Ground-type
The surface you will be playing on also matters when picking out your cleats. If you will be playing indoors, you should go for flat shoes made of rubber. If you are playing outdoors, natural or artificial turf, make sure you have the studs on the sole too.
The reason is for better grip and traction. If you were to swap the two and play, you will notice the difference in your performance.
Good padding
Comfort can not be overemphasized. Well-padded shoes will help you move better. It will lessen the impact you will feel while running or kicking and prevent strain or tension on any part of the foot.
If you know your feet have special needs, then get cleats that you can put your orthopedic insoles in or that are okay by a doctor, so you can help your feet.
There are so many other factors but most of them like the upper, the collar (high, mid, or low tops), eyelets if the laces are secondary.
Conclusion
And we are done! I hope that helped you. One to note is that despite the category and features, you should put your foot needs first so you don’t have to get a new pair anytime soon.
